A bout of cellulitis (complications of lymphodema in my left arm), sent me to the hospital last week for three days.  Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley has a great staff--thoughtful, experienced, and attentive.  I forgot how social a hospital is with constant comings and goings.  In some cases, chatting with nurses and a variety of care-givers was highly informative, enlightening, fascinating and funny.  Not unlike my sessions with those of you in my counseling practice!  However, I'm glad to be home.

Thanks to my partner, Robert, for making this new newsletter format possible.  I am creeping along in technology.

10.  FRUGAL INNOVATION

I don't know about you, but I am fascinated by the innovative spirit of emerging economies.  My partner, Robert, shared with me the other day this very interesting special report in The Economist about the way some countries are coming up with inventive solutions to problems, and often doing it on a shoestring.  It just goes to prove that spending large amounts of money is not always the way to develop a brilliant and useful product or service.  I was so struck by the concept, I wanted to share it with you. Here's a quote:

"Developing countries are becoming hotbeds of business innovation in much the same way as Japan did from the 1950s onwards. They are coming up with new products and services that are dramatically cheaper than their Western equivalents: $3,000 cars, $300 computers and $30 mobile phones that provide nationwide service for just 2 cents a minute. They are reinventing systems of production and distribution, and they are experimenting with entirely new business models. All the elements of modern business, from supply-chain management to recruitment and retention, are being rejigged or reinvented in one emerging market or another."

Hi

I have nine items for you this month. First, the quote for April "Great opportunities come to all, but many do not know they have met them. The only preparation to take advantage of them is simple fidelity to watch what each day brings." Albert E. Dunning

I BELIEVE that the message in this quote is quite true, and very important. Too often I have seen how we tend to fall into a funk, and choose to focus most of our attention on what has already happened and how "bad it is." However, we fail to notice that what has happened is often an exact answer to what we had been thinking about or asking for in the past. Law of Attraction has to match our personal frequency. When we feel frustrated by our state or feel we are not fulfilling our purpose, our discomfort is AN OPPORTUNITY to grow, create, learn, adapt, or get motivated to move forward. If you are feeling restless or frustrated, look for a deeper purpose or opportunity present in your EXACT situation. If you don't see anything now, just let this idea simmer in the back of your mind. When you are ready, an inspiration will occur.

CPR NEWS: Another one of Penney's emails informed me of the newest recommendation for giving CPR after you've called 911.
