PURPOSE AND PASSION

June 2007                                                          Carol Adrienne, Ph.D.

Does career passion last forever?  Once we leave a job, how do we sort out what we want to do?  These two questions came up for the following two readers who submitted their biographical data for a short numerological analysis.

Dear Carol,

My name is (withheld for privacy) and my birth date is 10/22/1976. About six years ago I was inspired to create new and innovative toys in order to bring out the playfulness in adults, and to bring joy to life and kids around the world. Most of all I was inspired by Tom Hanks in the movie Big. I created a career for myself, and have now been in the toy industry for six years.

The first year or so was magical and awesome to bring to life this idea that I saw in a movie. However, the first company I worked for did not allow me to grow and move up. I saw many signs that it was time to move on. Now I have been at this second company for four years, and I feel as if the same thing is happening again. Even though I have been very lucky and blessed to be working for this employer, I feel as though I am not appreciated (not getting paid enough, not respected enough, and not growing. I’m still in the same position since I started four years ago). Most of all, I have nearly lost all of the zest and passion that I once had when I created this job for myself.  I always believed that anything is possible if you truly believe in it. Is it time to move on? Is this my life’s purpose?

On another note, I invested so much time in this career that I have not yet met my "soul mate." I constantly get reminded at work and from my family members that the clock is ticking and I am way overdue for getting married. How do you recommend I handle this?

Dear SS
According to influences in your numerological cycles, I am not surprised that you are restless and feeling like moving on from this job.  For one thing, you are in a 5 Personal Year, and 5 always wants to broaden, expand, change, and grow!  Not only that but your Essence influence from your birthday last October to this October, 2007 is a 1—which is calling for you to take charge of your life and make some decisions about what will give you back passion and vitality.  You have been under the 1 Essence since October, 2004, just about the time you moved to this second company.  The lessons you were being prompted to learn there were all in the realm of the number 1.  For example, in order to feel successful during the reign of the 1 you would have done well to  choose something new and unique to challenge yourself.  You would have needed to wake up every day and believe in yourself and what you had to offer.  You would have moved forward by being confident and assertive when others may have been overriding your input.  You would have succeeded when focusing on your talent and proposing original ideas.

Your Birth Path—which is your natural self and outlook on life—is a 1, which means you have been “in your element” for the last three years.  Furthermore, number 1 is naturally an independent freedom-lover who wants to live according to her own desires, so I’m not surprised you stayed single through the last three years!

I notice something else in your chart—a tendency to be inspired by quality and talent and to have high expectations when involved with a person or a project.  You may get bored with mundane details.

Do you feel that you are more passionate at the beginning of a new development, rather than at the end or in the middle?  If so, then your passion is probably dying down due to the stage you are now in with the work environment—it’s not new, exciting or challenging anymore—and this feeling may be exacerbated because you feel overlooked (invisibility is death to a 1!!)
I always believe that life places us in exactly the right situation so that we can learn certain lessons or have certain experiences that are part of our life path.  Given that, I suggest, that before you move on, why not listen to your intuition about how you could exploit this situation to learn something?  The 1 is asking you to be independent, courageous, honest, forthright, original, and confident.  To develop these qualities you need the right opportunity, don’t you?  This job may be the opportunity to develop these traits and get paid for it!  Consider the following:

* What original idea, plan, or improvement to the company might you have to present? (Is there anything you’ve been wanting to say about improving conditions at the company that’s been in the back of your mind?)

* What if you wrote up a one-page synopsis outlining your value to the company and what you have been responsible for so far, and then sending it to your boss with a note that you would like to discuss a pay raise?  Women traditionally shy away from asking for more money, whereas men are expected to assert themselves, and often do move ahead if they ask. What have you got to lose, especially if you think you want to change jobs anyway?

* How could you make one last impact that would ensure an outstanding reference when you leave?

You have the Line of Success in your chart.  Not only that, but you have the heart of a researcher (7), and the day of birth of the Master Builder 22.  Remember, the 22 achieves mastery by using the power of visualization, intention, and intuition to move in new directions.  Why not engage that playful quality of yours and make a ‘board game” just for fun, marking a whimsical progress to a fabulous new job?

The job isn’t sucking passion out of you—you’ve just started focusing on all the things you don’t like, instead of all the things you do like.  Start looking for every tiny positive thing this week at work and see how the scene shifts. You can still move to a new job if you like, but mine the gems in this one first.

As to everyone pushing you to wake up and get married, it’s important to realize that your chart isn’t oriented to the domestic side of life.  It seems to indicate that your life choices will be more focused on creativity, exploration, and living to a different tune (and schedule).  That being said, it is possible that you could fall in love and even get pregnant next year during your 6 Personal Year (marriage, home, and family) with a 3 Essence (fertility and creativity.)  All the best.

A thirty-year-old man writes:

I am a huge believer in the law of attraction and synchronicity. I have recently quit my job because it was absolutely eating at my soul.  I feel free and happy again, but I’m broke.  I am 30 years old and feel very lost and want so badly to find my purpose and make a difference.  I have read your book about the purpose of life, and James Redfield’s whole series of books.  Is patience all I am lacking?  CS

Dear CS

Your birthdate of February 14, 1977 adds up to the number 22/4—the master builder.  This number drives you to understand spiritual principles and apply them.  I suggest you mentally give thanks for job you just quit, and for all it gave you in terms of sustenance, friendships, paying the bills, and valuable experience.  It may have ended by eating your soul, but there was something necessary that you needed to learn there. Your chart shows that the last three years were under the karmic 16/7 influence—so this job was in some way helping you balance past life decisions.

Freedom is a big deal for you--you have a 14/5 Destiny (freedom and rebelliousness) and you are born on the 14/th as well, strengthening the influence of 5.  If our Destiny number reveals a big part of our purpose, then your purpose has to do with the constructive use of freedom.

Your ambition is to be independent and develop something of your own (19/1 Heart’s Desire.)  Therefore, now that you are looking for a new direction, it’s imperative to use this time to good advantage—primarily to learn anything to do with spirituality, healing, education, and foreign cultures (your 9 Essence.)

With the karmic overtones of your 14 and 19, you may have had past lives where your radical nature caused severe repercussions.  Heads sometimes rolled in those days just for being different.  Don’t shy away from leadership positions, but make sure the leadership is for the good of many—not just your own ambition.  Likewise, part of your life purpose is to eliminate any tendency to blame or feel like a victim of circumstances.

Your Ultimate Goal is a 9—humanitarian benefit to the masses.  Since you have just entered a nine-year period of the number 9 Essence—this would mean that what you do in the next nine years is very crucial to your later life—especially the period between age 42 and 50.  This is because of a 9 Pinnacle occurring for nine years starting in 2019.

With a 14/5 Destiny, you’ll probably be happiest having several careers over the course of your life. Your Soul did not desire one career experience for the whole lifetime.  The 14/5 excels at coming up with just the right answer when needed and requires flexibility, practical sense, and good timing.  Sure, you could be a stock broker with your numbers, (I have no idea what your last job actually was,) but I think you want to foster deeper values than just making money.  You have an entrepreneurial spirit where you might provide goods or services to enhance the environment or the well-being of others.  Think ecology, body work, alternative energy, organic products, and foreign service like the Peace Corps.

In addition, unconditional love is up for you—and an interesting long-term relationship with someone foreign or who has a different way of thinking is very possible over the next nine years.

You asked if patience was all that is necessary.  You do have a strong streak of patience showing in your numbers, but I think now you need to trust that you are a larger soul than you thought (not in any arrogant sense of self-importance, just that you could do a lot of good by actively pursuing justice and supporting the positive changes happening on the planet.  Turn what you know for the good of others.  Do you know what I mean?

Happy June to everyone,
