YOUR LIFE IN 2008

Carol Adrienne, Ph.D.

January 2008

Happy New Year!  The Universal year of 2008 adds up to the action-oriented number 1.  Numerologically, each of us is getting the go-ahead signal to initiate positive life changes.  Of course, the Universal Year 1 is only part of the story.  Your personal birthday in combination with 2008 helps you understand where and how to focus for best results in 2008.

Based on the Pythagorean system, your Personal Year starts January 1 and ends December 31—no matter when your birthday occurs in the year—even if it is in late December.

The Universal Influence of  Piorneering Advances (1)
Behind the total number 1 (encouraging such qualities in us as leadership, originality, independent thinking, and choosing new directions) the Universal year is made up of the individual numbers 2 0 0 8—each of which makes its own impact.

The Universal Influence of Co-operation and Harmony (2)
For example, the “2” reminds us that cooperation in working with others is crucial for the planet—personally or globally.  Some of the other strong qualities of “2” are sensitivity to others, balance, friendship, association, acceptance, and patience.  Two works to create harmony and beauty (obviously a complicated process in various part of the world.)

The Universal Influence of  the Archetype of Wholeness (00)
The two zeroes emphasize harmony, spirituality, and wholeness—values that influence our individual and planetary consciousness—in order to maintain a healthy planet.

The Universal Influence of Power in Solving Problems (8)
The “8” in 2008 is considered a vibration that creates material success.  Eight is also connected with power, education, law, finances, business, professional sports, publishing, corporations, and other hierarchical systems.  Eight reminds us to use logic and perseverance when solving problems or making choices.  It’s a call to be more committed to what we are doing in life, and to strive to stay mentally, emotionally, and physically balanced while we work hard to create the results we want. The combination of “2” (diplomacy, sensitivity, and balance) is an excellent ameliorating energy for the highly motivated ‘8.”  The message of 2 and 8 is—“remember to create and maintain good relationships on your path to achievement!”

Find Your Personal Year Influence for 2008
Now let’s look at your Personal Year.  To find your Personal Year, add your month and day of birth to 2008.  Keep adding until you get a single number.
For example, if your birthday were November 14th, add it to the current year…
11   +   14   +   2008 (2+8= 10 = 1+0= 1)
                                  2    +    5    +     1 =  8 Personal Year

We live in nine-year cycles, which follow the natural principles of growth.  For example, a 1 year is a time for planting seeds; a 2  year is a time of germination; a 3 year is a time for self-expression, a 4 year is a time for manifesting; a 5 year is a time for changing and expanding; a 6 year is a time for creating security through being responsible; a 7 year is a time for slowing down and reflecting; an 8 year is a time for material advancement; and a 9 year means time to complete and get ready to start over again.

Your Personal Year for 2008

1 Personal Year     SEEK NEW CHALLENGES
Your ability to move forward is especially enhanced, as you are in sync with the Universal number 1 of 2008.  Take advantage of changes in the world, and catch that momentum. This is not the year to procrastinate or let fear get in the way.  It’s time to clear your slate, and let go of relationships that drain you—spend less time with emotional vampires!  Success comes when you give up trying to make the “right decision” and just follow your instincts.  Go in the direction of what energizes you.

This is the year to look and feel your best.  If a diet is on your mind—don’t think diet, think lifestyle change.  Don’t keep doing more of what is not working. What one habit could you change this week?

The best way to start the year is to find a quiet time where you can think about what you want. First, make a list of what you don’t want anymore.  Second, take those items and turn them into a description of what would be ideal for you.  Be as specific as you can.  For example:  “I don’t want to work with small-minded people” becomes, “Ideally, I enjoy working with all the people at my job.”  Once you’ve created a list of ideal points, you have created a powerful intention that will begin to change your life.  By September, you may be amazed at how closely your life resembles your list.  If single, this is a good year to meet someone for a long-term relationship—particularly in places that are new to you

1 Personal Year CHALLENGE:     SELF-DOUBT
Don’t worry about making a perfect new plan. Success comes from being positive, bold, and patient. Opportunities tend to come toward fall.  Counteract anxiety by building a fit body and stimulating your mind.
Quote for a 1 Year:  “Your future depends on many things, but mostly on you.”  Frank Tyger

2 Personal Year        INCREASE BEAUTY AND HARMONY
This is a year to focus on how you relate to others. To do that you, slow down a little bit, and listen to and observe yourself. Despite a tendency to feel held down by circumstances, enjoy each day fully. Allow yourself more time to sleep, read, chat with friends, listen to music, bake cookies, or organize your closets.  Don’t push the river as there is no need for haste, great ambitions, or worry.

If single, this is the year to put more attention on making time to interact in fun and meaningful ways with others—whether friends or potential mates.  Be receptive to others, rather than forceful or impatient.  This is a great year to increase your knowledge by meeting new people or taking classes that increase your technical skills or confidence.

At work, look for ways to make others look good, and give your attention to things that other people may be overlooking.  Volunteer to attend conferences or represent your company at an association meeting.  If self-employed, your business success comes from connecting with people who cross-pollinate your business. Read books and journals that increase expertise in your field.

2 Personal Year CHALLENGE:     OCCASIONAL FRUSTRATION OR FEELING ALONE
Periods of low energy indicate that you need time to rest and take care of yourself.  During those times, leave the big questions alone, and concentrate on being fully present in each moment.  Make your living space more attractive and a cozy place for gatherings.  Cultivate friendships, and watch for surprising results in other areas of your life unfold effortlessly!
Quote for a 2 Year:  “Your wealth is where your friends are.” Plautus

3 Personal Year         EXPRESS YOURSELF
You are in a phase of positive self-development—requiring you to loosen up and bring some new energy into your life.  You may be busy with work, but it’s very important this year to include activities that are fun, unusual, or offer you a chance to express yourself.  You might take ballroom dance lessons, learn a language, take a class on photography, PhotoShop, or how to create scrap books. If starting a business, networking helps attract clients.  If single, you are very likely to meet good people.  If married, you might be starting a family, or spending more time with your children. This is a lucky year in many ways, and you may receive unexpected help from friends.

3 Personal Year CHALLENGE:   IMPULSIVE SPENDING
This could be a time when you are pouring money into a project, or suddenly decide to refurbish the living room (or your clothes.) These projects are great, but be sure that you make a spending plan before running out with your credit card.  Channel your energy into healthy self-expression, and give yourself permission to play and experiment. There is a possibility you might be unemployed during part of this year, so use this time as a gift to develop ideas for which you don’t usually have time.  Be positive.
Quote for a 3 Year:  “Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of life, the whole aim and end of human existence.”  Aristotle

4 Personal Year      CREATE A STRONG CORE
This is the time to set goals for the future.  At least review where you are, and think about where you’d like to be in five years.  What would it take for you to move ahead in a positive direction?  More education or training?  A better grip on your spending and income?  A new job?  A new roof on your house?  Fulfillment this year comes from knowing that you are making progress.  Progress may not be swift, so a patient and practical approach builds success by the end of the year.

What one goal would you like to achieve this year?  Write it down.  Find a picture or photograph that projects the fulfillment of your goal and put it in a place where you will see it every day. You will always have what you need this year.

4 Personal Year CHALLENGE: WORRY
You may work in intense spurts and then stop. A tendency to work without a true purpose could become workaholism.  Be sure to stay balanced by relaxing frequently. If unemployed, spend your time wisely and productively.  Use this opportunity to discipline yourself to think positively.  Review every aspect of your life and take care of anything that is outstanding or requiring your attention.  This is a great year to get organized and take charge of things that have been bothering you.  New projects start to happen around June--or possibly January or October.
Quote for a 4 Year: “The true worth of a man is to be measured by the objects he pursues.” Marcus Aurelius

5 Personal Year        FOLLOW YOUR CURIOSITY AND BE OPEN
At this point in your nine-year cycle, you may feel restless.  This means that you need to make some changes. Only you know what those adjustments are. Do you need to have a talk with your mate?  Do you need to get out of your apartment and find something more comfortable?  Are job uncertainties forcing you to look for new job training?  If so, you are exactly in the place you need to be right now. You’ll be feeling restless to develop something new, so branch out and experiment. Your biggest time of change will probably be May, or possibly September. You let go of an old condition or problem in April.

5 Personal Year CHALLENGE:  LACK OF FOCUS OR RESISTANCE TO CHANGE
You may start a lot of things, but not all will pan out.  That’s okay, but don’t run away from responsibility just because it’s the easy way out.  Physical temptations may get the best of you if you are socializing too much, over-eating, drinking too much, or feeling bored in your relationship. Channel your energy into a fitness plan.  Instinctively, you may find yourself resisting making a change because you aren’t sure what to do.  In that case, relax, and write down the following affirmation, and say it to yourself every day:  “Today I want to meet good people.”
Quote for a 5 Year: “Any life truly lived is a risky business, and if one puts up too many fences against risks one ends by shutting out life itself.”  Kenneth S. Davis

6 Personal Year        FOCUS ON BEING RESPONSIBLE AND CARING
Even though you may be single or living alone without family, you still may be dealing with family issues, or considering how to make your home life more comfortable or secure.  Other people may making demands on you—whether it’s your boss, roommate, or mother-in-law! Depending on your situation, you may be thinking about marriage or divorce.  Friends may lean on your for emotional support, or you may be concerned about members in your family who are not doing well.  Suddenly you realize that you really are a grown-up!

Finances tend to be fairly good this year, as you receive what you need just when you need it.  A quiet joy comes when you help out someone you deeply care about. Generally, this is a year when it’s more practical to stay in your current job. However, if you want to change, plan for April or August.

If planning a wedding this year (which is likely if you are single,) good times would be September, April, May, or June.  New children or grand children may arrive anytime, but look for them especially in April, June, or September.

6 Personal Year CHALLENGE:     ANXIETY OR OVERWHELM
Be sure not to overwork yourself, as tiredness can put you in a downward spiral, physically and emotionally.  When worried about finances or health, share your concerns, but don’t be a constant complainer. If you feel out of sorts, get a physical check up or see a counselor.  Resolve to take better care of yourself.  Don’t let other people try to make you feel guilty.  Saying no, thank you, is quite sufficient.
Quote for a 6 Year: “I find that it is not the circumstances in which we are placed, but the spirit in which we face them, that constitutes our comfort.”

7 Personal Year         A TIME OF SELF-DISCOVERY
It’s the time in your nine-year cycle to take stock and review where you are in life.  If you have been busy making a living and attending to the needs of others at work or home, you now need some time for solitude and refreshment. Obviously, you probably won’t take the whole year off—but those in academic circles might be on sabbatical.  At the very least, try to take things at a slower pace whenever you can.  Even scheduling one or two periods each week with nothing scheduled (I know that sounds ironic, but you won’t get free time unless you put it on your calendar!) can refresh your spirit in unexpected ways.

Romance could blossom with someone who shares your spiritual values. Make your goal this year to SIMPLIFY. Make no excuses.  Make no explanations.

7 Personal Year CHALLENGE:     LETTING A PESSIMISTIC ATTITUDE SPOIL THE PRESENT
This year the challenge is to listen to your intuition and hear that still, small voice—without judgment or self-criticism.  Your life may not be where you want it to be, but that, in itself, is just information.  There is no rush; no where to go.  You are exactly where you need to be right now. Awaken to the message in your present situation.  If you have been focused on achievements and worldly issues without having balance in your life, you may suddenly feel lonely.  If you have had many setbacks, you may feel you should be further ahead.  Trust that your process is always taking you to a deeper, better place, and making your stronger. Next year is a time for more worldly accomplishments.
Quote for a 7 Year:  “The human spirit is stronger than anything that can happen to it.” George C. Scott

8 Personal Year        MAKE YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE
This year highlights how outside conditions are affecting in your life.  For example, you may have been working hard, but not getting the income you deserve.  You may have let financial burdens dominate your thinking.  Perhaps you are facing a power struggle with another person.  Perhaps illness has been a problem for you or a loved one. However, during this powerful year, you will find the inner and outer strength you need to solve your problems.

Now that you are nearing the end of your nine-year tutorial, you realize that you are no longer a beginner.  It’s time to acknowledge your skills, knowledge, and experience. In all dealings, be businesslike, rather than pinning hopes on speculation or the colorful stories that others spin.

It’s time now to take charge of your finances—or any other causes for concern.  Do whatever it takes to pay down credit card debt and increase savings. Commit to learning more about sound investments rather then lusting after get-rich-quick schemes.  Acknowledge any small steps you take towards sound living.

8 Personal Year CHALLENGE: FINANCIAL STRAIN
Generally, this is a year to build up financial power.  However, if you have been struggling with serious financial problems or setbacks, then this year requires careful choices about money. Stress comes from overworking or taking on jobs with unrealistic production deadlines. Property that has been slow to sell may move in January or October.  What does your intuition say about how you could create more material well-being?

Quote for an 8 Year:  “If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imaged, he will meet with success unexpected in uncommon hours.”  Henry David Thoreau

9 Personal Year         RELEASE, COMPLETE, AND INTEGRATE
Congratulations.  You have lived through your nine-year “assignment.” However, the question is: have you completed everything?  Or what, if anything, is still undone?

Reap your rewards by stepping back and asking yourself, What have I learned in the past nine years?  How have I created happiness?  Am I satisfied with how I handled my relationships?  Looking back over the past nine years, what would I do differently next time?

What do you see or feel is on the horizon now?  Perhaps the question is: What would balance my life?  Toward the end of the year, write down your feelings and reflections.  Draw a circle and write into the circle any ideas and things you would like to attract into your life for the next nine years!

This is a great year to travel and gain perspective from seeing other cultures.  It’s also a time to get involved in humanitarian activities, and feel that you are helping, even in small ways, to make this a better world for everyone.  If you can, spend more time in cultural pursuits, finding spiritual community, and increasing your knowledge of history, philosophy, healing, languages, and the arts.  This could be a highly romantic year, but don’t make commitments until at least October of this year.  All and all this is one of those years to remember.

9 Year CHALLENGE: UNCERTAINTY ABOUT THE FUTURE

You may sense a change is coming, but feel confused about how to prepare or what to do!  Emotional ups and downs are common during this transition period.  You are likely to be leaving behind an old part of yourself, letting go of an old dream, or parting with an important relationship.

This is a time to go with the flow.  Let the river of life steer your boat where it needs to go.  For the time being, it’s good to complete what needs to be completed, and keep your eye out for the new direction.  You’ll know it when you see it.  The “rule of the nine” is that life always replaces whatever you lose with something even better.  Get ready for your 1 Personal Year next year.
Quote for a 9 Year: “Learn to do thy part and leave the rest to Heaven.” John Henry Cardinal Newman
