To Move or Not to Move

Carol Adrienne, Ph.D.

When things are not going the way we want them to, it’s impossible to resist the urge to look for a good reason why we are being thwarted.  Am I doing the wrong thing?  Is it the economy?  Am I living in the wrong city?  This month’s question comes from NC who currently lives in Portland, Oregon.  He writes:

I've been looking for a better job since January 2007. I've never searched this long for a job before. In 2006, I moved from Atlanta to Portland, Oregon. Initially, I wavered between San Francisco and Portland, but while my heart gravitated towards San Francisco, I worried about running out of money before landing a job.

In a numerology book I have, it says that people should live in a city that matches some of their personal numbers. Portland doesn't match any of my numbers. I love Portland and don't want to move, but I've never been more miserable in a job I'm wondering if incompatible numbers is the reason why I haven't had much success in finding a better job. I got my degree in international politics and that is where my passion remains, but finding a job in that field has been difficult. I would appreciate any advice.

Yours is an interesting question! Do the numbers of a city have the power to influence events in our lives, or do we give them--or some other external factor-- that power? 

First, let’s take a look at your numerology chart in terms of your life plan and timing.  Then we’ll review the numbers of Portland.  Thanks for sending me your full name and birth date, so I can do a little numerological analysis (using only your initials to protect your privacy.)

I’m only doing a quick synopsis, but here goes.

    Destiny          16/7    Your Destiny of16/7 is considered a spiritual and “karmic number.”  Seven typically indicates the need to learn to trust your intuition and inner guidance. Since you brought up the numerology perspective, you seem to be pursuing your destiny of spiritual awareness. Your 16/7 Destiny also involves becoming an expert in a field of knowledge—which often takes time (often decades) to develop.  I believe that there are no accidents, and that there is a deeper reason why you are in this current unrewarding job.  One reason may be to encourage you to go deeper within.

Your birth date of December 30, 1971 adds up to 6.


Birth Path        = 6     As a Birth Path 6, a sense of home and security is very important, so you tend not to act until you have an assurance of success. You think of yourself as pretty responsible (maybe too responsible,) and probably are “spot on,”whenever friends ask for advice.
Heart’s Desire    = 5    Despite your love of comfort and security, you also have another side—a restless nature that needs stimulation.  When you have stopped learning—or begin to feel boxed in by boring people or rigid work cultures--you start wondering what else you could be doing. 

Instead of finding a new fixed location, maybe you need to divide your time between different places, perhaps by becoming a free-lance consultant.  Your high concentration of the numbers 3, 6, and 9 show a highly intelligent—and imaginative--mind interested in high ideas.  However, despite your naturally restless heart, you may find that intellectually you are very quick to see possibilities, but when it comes to actually making a decision, you might be a little afraid of closing other doors.

Timing

It seems that spiritually you are learning about not allowing fear to keep you paralyzed in something you don’t like.  It’s up to you to honor your true needs and feelings and look for something else, even if it’s working at Starbucks as a barista for a short time!  Only you know what is pulling at your heart strings.


Your Personal Year throughout 2008 has been 7—a year of reflection, analysis, and soul development. The downside of 7 might be a tendency to feel lonely, awkward in social situations, or reluctant to take on something new.  It’s okay. There’s no rush.


Your Theme from December 2007 to December 2008 has been 8—bringing concerns about  buying or selling property, career advancement, power-struggles, and investments. 
Your Theme from December 2008 through next year is changing to 6—matching your Birth Path number 6.  This might mean that you find a great opportunity that fits you like a glove. Since 6 indicates emphasis on love and marriage, however, you might also be handling changes in the domestic area as much as your career.

Depending on what kind of actions you are willing to take, I see you making a lot of changes (or becoming a free-lance consultant) as early as the end of 2009.  About the time you turn 41, your chart shows a theme of 9 for nine years!  If you have been pursuing international contacts (or married to a foreigner) you may be involved with something that gets you into international business.

Interestingly, your next Pinnacle is ALSO 9, strongly indicating opportunities for international and humanitarian projects, reinforced by your Theme of 9 as mentioned. . This influence is in place from age forty to forty-eight.

Offering opportunities in technology, self-development, independence, and
entrepreneurial ventures.  Portland is an exceptionally balanced vibration, as it has one of
each number, except number 8 (money.)  Despite it’s agreeably varied opportunities and
promise of independence, making money here may be a little bit more difficult.  The first
letter P (7) provides a sense of tranquility and natural beauty. The last letter D (4) gives a
feeling of grounded practicality.

With a gateway to the East, and a diverse mix of ethnicities, San Francisco offers a progressive, open-minded culture. The balanced vibration of two 3’s, two 6’s, and two 9’s might be an indicator that you, NC, would find this a stimulating environment (matching your mental interests.)

1. What is my intuition telling me?
2. Am I truly still as interested in international politics as I was in college, and in what specific niche would I see myself working?
3. If you are looking for something closer to the international playing field, what is the first step in that direction, and the next, and the next? 
4. Is fluency in a foreign language something that you could develop while job searching?

5.  What about volunteering in an international organization (through the Internet, applying for a job, interning, or??) to see where that might take you? Sometimes our interest in one area morphs creatively into something we never would have imagine.

6. After considering these questions, what does your heart say about staying in Portland or moving?

Hello Carol,
 
I wanted to thank you for the nice surprise. I have been meaning to respond to you but work got a little busy. Something weird happened in my life starting on Monday last week. After months of not feeling any kind of "movement" or guidance regarding my life, I started to get the strange coincidences that seems to make life flow and I'm enjoying the ride!
 
Your numerology analysis is pretty dead on accurate. I got chills reading it the first time and had to read it a few more times just to absorb it all. You did answer my question and I had to laugh about the fact that Portland is missing the number associated with money. That definitely seems to be the case, as I meet so many people frustrated by the lack of good paying jobs in Portland.
 
Right now, I'm waiting on a job opportunity that presented itself last week. Several people had approached me to let me know about it and saying that they thought I would be perfect for it. When I read the job description, I was shocked because it described my current job. However, I would be working from home and it's with my church, which I'm really passionate about. Since my church is internationally focused and small, and I'm pretty well connected with many church members nationwide, I would be doing something I love if they hire me for this position. And it has the potential to lead to something bigger (such as serving the church in Tahiti or Australia or Thailand). I don't know why after 18 months of nothing, that last week, the amount of coincidences increased. I'm still trying to understand the law of attraction, intuition, and the power of meditation.
